The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will hold two virtual public hearings, one on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and another on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in order for interested parties to provide oral comments on EPA's proposed rule revising the current federal Clean Water Act human health water quality criteria applicable to waters under the state of Washington’s jurisdiction. EPA established Washington's existing criteria for the protection of human health in 1992 as part of the National Toxics Rule, and the proposed rule updates the fish consumption rate, and toxicity and exposure parameters, which are used to calculate the human health criteria.

According to the agency, there will be a brief presentation from EPA, then oral comments will be accepted (limited to three minutes per commenter). Commenters will also have the option to submit visual aids to accompany their oral comments. The hearings will be recorded and transcribed, and EPA will consider all of the oral comments provided along with the written public comments submitted via the docket for this rulemaking.
